Month of May 2012 when I came to visit my mom's hometown - Eastern Samar.Philippines, being composed of 7,107 islands, surely has a lot of water wonders to explore. Distinguished by it's wonderful beaches and waterfalls, choosing where to start must be really difficult. Glad that I had a chance to visit one country's hidden treasure.
I went to Eastern Samar with a cousin for a 2weeks vacation. There are couple of buses from Manila that has direct trips to the province but due to limited trips and number of passengers, you have to book in advance your ticket. In our case, since it's summer time, we had to book the ticket a week before - for P1500 aircon bus including ferry fare except port and terminal fees you can get it.
Inside Golden Star bus, we left Araneta - Cubao bus station at 12pm and reached Matnog pier at 4am the next day. After a 2hr ferry ride, we hopped back to our bus and started the trip again. Due to some "road" problems, our bus had to stop - and unfortunately, we had to transfer to a mini-overloaded-not-aircon-local bus - then finally reached Oras, Eastern Samar at sun-at-it's-hottest-spot 1pm.
All the hassle and haggard times of our lives during this travel magically went away just looking at the road.We stayed at our Aunt Celsa's simple house - it's my 2nd time here but everything seems different compared to how it was 15years ago.
Hidden Treasures:
Binugawan Beach - One truly secluded beach - no commercialized establishments, no bars, no crowd, no wastes, no noise! Just the sound of waves, birds and local kids!
"Shawer" as my nephews are calling this small and cold mini-waterfall.
Oh-wow bigger falls!
All these places and other things we did for the whole stay were just - wonderful! I can't even find a perfect word to describe them. Friendly locals, simple neighborhood, food, green mountains and everything - will make you wanna go back again and again. A kind of happiness that a busy Metro can't give.
